QUT Mooting

The end of ALSA for QUT...

Unfortunately we lost our semi final against Macquarie University unanimously this afternoon. I thought the standard of the moot was very high, and good natured, but it still stings a little to be out.

 

Congratulations to the teams in the final - Macquarie and UNSW. Commiserations to Griffith who also lost their semi final this afternoon.

Well, I'll make this short, as we're off to enjoy the social side of ALSA, but I wanted to say thanks to Justen and Ben for a great (and successful) week. I would like to say also that this will be my last moot for QUT. I am retiring from mooting as of now (but you may see me around on the coaching side).

ALSA Semi-finals!

Justen and I had an unanimous victory this afternoon against Waikato University, who mooted very well in what was definitely the closest moot we've been in this week. We have made the semi-finals which are on tomorrow at 2pm. Ben and I will be mooting - we are the Respondent against Macquarie University.

The two semi-finals are:
1. Macquarie University v QUT
2. UNSW v Griffith Nathan (not sure who is Appellant and Respondent)

We're very excited, and just stocking up now on Red Bull, lollies and other associated mind-sharpening products for another night of mooting! Woot!

ALSA Quarter Finals

The team (Justen Bersin, Ben Fraser and I) have made the quarter finals of ALSA, breaking 1st with 3 wins and 0 losses and an average winning percentage of around 13%. We are absolutely stoked, and starting a big night of reading cases and drinking red bull to prepare for the quarter final tomorow at 2pm. We are the Appellant against Waikato University.

For other Queensland supporters, Griffith Nathan broke and UQ and Griffith Gold Coast did not. Also breaking in mooting were USyd, UNSW, Waikato, Canterbury, Macquarie, Griffith Nathan (in no particular order and missing one - sorry!).

We are all pumped to break first, and keen to moot well tomorrow. Go QUT! We'll let you know asap.

ALSA Day 1

Today was Day 1 of the ALSA Mooting Competition at ANU in Canberra. We mooted against Deakin University (Ben and Justen as Appellants) at noon, and against Southern Cross University (Susan and Ben as Respondents) at 4pm. Both moots went well, but we don't know any results at this stage. Tonight we will do some final preparations for our moot at noon tomorrow against Flinders University (Susan and Justen as Appellants). Then fingers crossed for the break tomorrow night!
